About John L. Roberts, MBA, Financial Professional
Originally from Houston, Texas, I first moved to Tennessee in 2000 when I arrived in Memphis. Four years later I relocated to Knoxville, which has undoubtedly proven to be one of the best choices I have ever made.
I began my career in education but that was not the original plan. I was in pursuit of a Finance degree until a conversation with my father prompted a rather unexpected and radical change of direction. I graduated from Texas A&M and entered the workforce as an alternative high school mathematics and history teacher. I never could have imagined the profound impact of teaching and developing others and so I spent the next 20 years in the roles of teacher, coach, principal and professor. It was a very difficult decision to leave education.
My interest in financial matters only intensified after college. This attribute combined with extensive leadership, management and teaching experience, naturally led to becoming a financial professional. I also value learning as evidenced by the doctorate earned in leadership and an MBA. As it happens, both leadership and management principles are cornerstones of financial planning as they consist of determining the ideal path and optimal methods. The content has changed but the common thread has always been teaching and supporting others to facilitate accomplishing their goals.
I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to join Jacki and David at Waypoint Financial Partners.
